DAT gains marketshare in low-end tape in H1 2009

Despite a decline in overall shipments, the low end tape drive market continued to favour DAT technology in calendar H1’09, with the IDC Tape Drive Market Report showing an increase of 9% over the first half of calendar 2008.
In the low-end tape market, DAT technology accounted for 86% of shipments in calendar Q2'09 with the closest rivals being AIT with 8% and DLT-VS holding 4%.
Although LTO Ultrium is the technology market leader with 57% share, DAT technology still accounts for 32% of overall tape drive shipments worldwide.
